Seriously?

Perturbed with a friend, I said ''put your thinking cap on",
he looked at me saying ''I didn't know it was gone.
He swiped at his head, looking surprised,
saying, "this is worse than I could have surmised.

My thoughts have been muddled, I'm not thinking straight,
I've noticed lately that I can't relate.
When did this start, I asked without thinking,
Is it possible you might have been drinking?

"I don't think I drink" he said, scratching his head,
I've never thought about what I've said.
I've just took it for granted that I thought at all,
I thought everyone had such a cap on their skull.

Now you're here to tell me my cap is gone,
Without it I don't think I can ever go on.
I think I'm terrified, but how would I know,
I can't survive without thinking, that's what I know.

Hold on I told him, it's a figure of speech,
thinking you can't think without one is a far reach.
He said, "Why would you say it, if one isn't needed,
did you want me to think my thinking's impeded.

Take your thinking cap off I joked, you're going insane.
Too much needless thinking is affecting your brain..
Wait a minute he said, where's your thinking cap,
you're confusing me with all this unthought out crap.

So putting our heads together we tried thinking things through,
without a cap between us it's damned hard to do.
Two heads we've heard said, are better than one,
but it doesn't apply if niether has a thinking cap on.

So caught up in our quandary, we sit, trying to ponder,
Unable to put two thoughts together, our minds ceaselessly wander.
We've lost track of everything we thought we knew,
besides missing our thinking caps we're missing some screws.
